Fear of Flying

I'm leaving on a jet plane...

NOT!

I am absolutely terrified of flying. Trust me, I know the statistics. I've been to therapy for it. I know it is by far the safest way to actually travel.

I don't care.

Getting me on a plane requires a dang miracle or a lot of drugs to keep me calm and knocked out. This is bad on so many levels and mainly because all my family live in different states. We have the baby now and everyone wants us to come visit. I hate saying no, but I do offer to split their plane tickets with them to come out to sunny California. They have obligations and reasons why they can't always come my way. I get it, I do. It makes me feel guilty and one day I need to just suck it up and deal.

And then things like this happen:

I just can't. Two  hundred and thirty nine people on board and nobody knows what happened to this plane. It is an eerie reminder of the Air France flight back in 2009. Obviously, something catastrophic took place and the hope of finding the plane or any survivors is bleak. Do you know what breaks my heart even more? There were two infants on board.

As I watch my little girl sleep I can't even begin to imagine the horror the families of these passengers and crew are going through. It brings tears to my eyes.

I hope all the souls of Flight 370 are at peace and may their families find some comfort in knowing that the world is grieving with you.

TBT 90's Songs I Can't Live Without

We all have those songs that take us back...way back. My teen years were spent in the 90's and these are the songs that take me back to the gold old days:

Sohpie B. Hawkins - Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover

Wow, this song! My best friend and I wrote novels in high school and we even wrote some short stories about our crushes. This song is dedicated to that crush ( a certain snare drummer) and that story. I love this song!

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

My high school sweetheart wrote the lyrics to this song in a note for me. It was our song from then on. Makes me smile every time I hear it. We might not have ended up together in the end, but we sure are great friends now.

Dave Mathews Band - Crash Into Me

This song has all those summer band camps written all over it! It takes me back to long hot marching band practices, goofing off, crushes and a whole lot of fun. I miss those people and those days!

Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

This song was always blasting out of our car speakers after football games. I can still smell the popcorn from our stadium!

Alison Krauss - When You Say Nothing At All

Ode to my best friend! Not only did she sing this song with her folk band, but it was our song. We were two misfits that found one another and never let go. You know who you are girl and I love you so very much!

Spice Girls - WANNABE

Again, my best friend and I were obsessed with the Spice Girls! We even dressed up like them and drug our then boyfriends kicking and screaming to the movies to watch their movie. Those poor boys.

Do you have certain songs that take you back? If so, what are they? I love these songs and so many more, but these are the ones that I can't live without!

WIP Wednesday

Book: The Soulless
Status: Outlining individual chapters working on certain pivotal scenes.

I am loving this historical paranormal. It involves way more research versus anything I've worked on before,  but that's okay. I love learning about this stuff. I also love pairing modern music with historical stories. There are some out there that hate it, but I love it!!

Musical Muses as of late:

Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground
(This song and I go way back)!

Lana Delrey - Young and Beautiful

LORDE - Royals
(I can't get enough of LORDE right now)!

Three Days Grace - The High Road
(Oh man, this song and the scene that it goes with)!

TLC's 90 Fiance, Get Real...

It is a known fact that 99.9% of all reality shows are scripted in some shape or form. However, that doesn't stop me from watching them. Yes, they're my little guilty pleasure. My husband calls them brain rot and he is probably right.

So this show is on TLC and it is called "90 Fiance". Basically it follows four couples and their ninety day rush to the alter. This show made me laugh. All of the women are from foreign countries. What's up TLC? Can't find any women with mail order grooms? Anyway, all of these men have apparently met and fallen in love with these women. You can go through the couples here 90 Fiance Couples. I am not going to post photos and all that jazz because I don't want to get sued. This post is merely my opinion/review of the show.

Couple 1: Kirlyam and Alan

Kirlyam and Alan met while he was doing missionary work in Brazil. Alan is Mormon. Like, really respects his faith Mormon. I'm all for that. You go bro. Kirlyam is from a very small town in Brazil and she leaves her family to marry Alan and live in L.A. Culture shock for sure, poor girl. They've spent a total of maybe several weeks together and he proposes. I was kind of rooting for this couple until Kirlyam made the move and some of Alan's true colors started to show. He is protective and extremely jealous. TLC could have made him out that way but I don't think they had to try real hard. This girl is gorgeous. She was basically discovered by a hairstylist one day and goes on to do some test model shoots. Of course, this gets Alan's feathers all ruffled. He claims he doesn't want to see the model business "corrupt or take advantage" of Kirlyam's innocent nature. Um, no. Get real dude. He knows that if anything the business will open her eyes to how much better she can do when it comes to men. Insecure...just a bit.

Couple 2: Aya and Louis

These two met online. She is from the Philippines and he is a divorced dad with two sons. I'll be honest. I think these two really do love one another. They aren't my favorite couple but they seem genuine in their feelings. I really don't have much more to say about them.

Couple 3: Aziza and Mike

If there were two people on Earth that were not meant for one another, it's these two. First off, Mike is a gross slob who literally seems to have no respect for Aziza. This girl is from Russia and I just can't convince myself that things where she came from are so bad she'd settle for this loser in order to get American citizenship. There are other ways, girl. She applied for a work visa before she agreed to the 90 fiance visa so that right there tells you, she doesn't love this joke of a man. Also, she like never eats. Ever. The awkwardness on the screen between these two is hilarious. I almost want to feel sorry for her except she got herself into this mess all on her own.

Couple 4: Paola and Russ

Russ met Paola while on a work trip for his company in Columbia. She's gorgeous and very outspoken. Russ on the other hand seems like a serious Mommy's boy. Paola has extremely expensive taste and Russ never seems to be able to say no. Throughout the entire show he complains that she is breaking his wallet and bank account. RED FLAGS MAYBE? Russ is obviously blinded by her sexy body and won't realize that Hurricane Paola will move on once he's broke and she gets her citizenship.  I see him moving back into Mommy's house really soon.

In a nutshell none of these men deserve any of these women. Even Louis. He is the less loser-y of the bunch, but still. I shake my head so hard during this show I might give myself whiplash. Yet, I still watch it. Reality T.V. is like a train wreck I can't look away from. Except on this wreck no one is injured or in need of  immediate help so I can just sit back and laugh at all the stupid that takes place.

What will TLC think of next? How about an Amish Mafia because that sounds totally realistic. Oh wait, they already did that. =P

What reality shows do you watch (if you watch em)? If it isn't a reality show do you have any show that is your little guilty pleasure? I want to know.

Happy Monday

TBT - 80's Fantasy Movies

I am going to start doing a Throwback Thursday post. The topics will be random but should be fun. If you like these posts please let me know in the comments and I will keep doing them! =)

My all time favorite 80's fantasy flick is and always will be:

The Dark Crystal
The Podling dance is my favorite part of the movie. I have watched this flick so many times I can't even count. Like, falling asleep watching it every night kind of thing. I have several versions of it. VHS, DVD, Bluray, Collectors Editions. Huge fan of this movie. Huge fan. Jim Henson, God Bless that man and how he inspired me from very early on in my life.

Next up:

Legend

Young (non crazy) Tom Cruise, unicorns, and an awesome love story. What's not to love, right? And the soundtrack is amazing!! Tangerine Dream, helllllooooo!!!

Last, but not least:

The Princess Bride
Not loving this movie is simply "inconceivable". Buttercup, Wesley, giants, sea monsters and even Fred Savage. (I had a massive Fred Savage crush in the 80's...thanks Wonder Years).

Obviously, I was a fantasy lover even in my early days. There are plenty of other 80's flicks that I love, but those will come in a different TBT 80's flick post. So tell me, what was your favorite 80's fantasy flick?

Happy TBT
